Giving back to Carolina, one cup at a time.
Community Donations
We operate as a non-profit, donating a percentage of our annual profits back to the UNC and Chapel Hill community.
In 2023 we donated a total of $30,000 to the UNC Campus Y and Y Reserve funds and $20,000 to local non-profits organizations or initatives. In 2024 we will donate another $50,000 back to the Carolina community.
Student Investments
We strive to support our student employees from multiple dimensions. Through our partnership with “Orange County Living Wage” and our tip-dynamic wage structure, we financially support our barista’s by promising a living wage.
We strive to invest in our student employees’ personal and professional development, providing business management, marketing, and community outreach opportunities. These skills serve students far beyond their time at Carolina.
Sustainability Initiatives
Meantime Coffee’s cups, cup sleeves, lids, and straws are all compostable. 80% of all waste generated in the cafe is either compostable or recyclable. Coffee grounds are composted using the service CompostNow. So far, we've diverted over 19,584 lbs. of waste from the landfill through our compost.
To reduce cup waste and encourage customers to bring their own reusable mugs, we introduced “BYOM (Bring Your Own Mug) punch cards” in the fall of 2022. That year, over 4,500 drinks were ordered with our BYOM program.
